If I had the chance to make a change to my local community, I would do so by becoming a teacher at a high school. The students at this point in their life are at their most formative stages. They have such dreams and ambition, and are the future of our society. Inspiring them with ideas to achieve and succeed by doing their best work is truly the greatest way to inspire change in the community in general. I would lead the environmental club, firstly, and every week we would clean up the community of litter and garbage. One step at a time!

As a child, my favourite game to play on the schoolyard during those fall afternoon recesses that seemed to last forever was a game we called marbles. Everyone would be out there playing each other for keeps or just for fun, digging pits and making paths, and having fun. I used to be pretty good. I could beat most people in my grade at least. I collected the skunk marbles, because they were the coolest. One time though, I dropped my bag of marbles and instead of helping me pick them up, people just took as many as they could and ran.

The most influential book I’ve ever read had to be a book called To Kill a Mockingbird. This book is one of the cornerstones of our society in that it teaches the reader about such life lessons as hard work, honesty, racism, and love and friendship. This book touched me as a youth in a profound way. I found the tales of those endless summers quite fascinating and riveting. There were other books that had this effect on me as well, but not as much as To Kill a Mockingbird did. I wish I had a father like Atticus. He was a true hero.
